3D Visualization Made Simple

Geometry and Extruded display forms are meant for visual and cartographic generalization. Geometry reduces buildings to their spatial mesh without textures and Extruded goes one step further and reduces buildings to their footprint extruded to their measured height. These techniques, especially Extruded, are ideal for creating simple 3D visualizations using few base data. The demo dataset represents a part of the official Potsdam city model and has been exported as tiles. The CityGML base dataset of the represented area is available within the .zip compressed folder Potsdam_LoD1.zip.

Hints for Usage

The .kml start file can be downloaded directly into Google Earth by clicking on the Potsdam_LoD1.kml file. The complete demo KML files including the .kml start file can be downloaded as a .zip compressed folder for local browsing. Alternatively, the demo KML model can be loaded and viewed using the free ArcGIS Explorer. In any case, the chosen viewer needs to be installed on your computer. For using the CityGML data set, please setup the 3DCityDB Instance with the following parameters: SRID: 25833 and gml:srsName: urn:ogc:def:crs,crs:EPSG:6.12:25833,crs:EPSG:6.12:5783
